The Edinburgh International Festival can boast a clean sweep of every award at the final Bank of Scotland Herald Angel Awards this weekend.

The range of work winning an award is still as wide as ever, with visual art, individual performance, direction, conducting, ensemble work and a fractured ankle all receiving recognition.

The Enlightenment and the Academies discussion - live on Twitter

Edinburgh International Festival will be sending out live Twitter updates from the panel discussion on The Enlightenment and the Academies from 2.30pm today, Tuesday 1 September. Twitter users will be able to follow the discussion from a distance via regular updates on the themes being addressed. Followers can also ask questions through Twitter by including the hastag #eanda in their tweets. These questions will be relayed to the panel at the end of the discussion.

Edinburgh International Festival Fringe Prize 2009 - Winners Announced

The three winners of the Edinburgh International Festival Fringe Prize 2009 have been announced today (Monday 31 August), and are as follows:

- The River People
- David Leddy
- Inspector Sands

Our prize, awarded this year to three of the most innovative theatre makers appearing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2009, takes the form of an invitation to present a work in progress as part of the Edinburgh International Festival’s Behind the Scenes programme in 2010.

Don Quixote makes a hero’s return

When last year’s performance of Don Quixote was cancelled, Festival Director Jonathan Mills promised to re-programme it for Edinburgh International Festival 2009.

True to his word, the Strauss masterpiece will indeed be performed this year, this time by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra at the Usher Hall tomorrow night, Monday 31 August at 8.00pm.

Last year the delayed arrival of the Staatskapelle Dresden’s instruments to Edinburgh called a halt to the concert.

More Festival 09 artists pick up Herald Angel Awards

Edinburgh International Festival picked up another two awards at the Herald Angel Award Ceremony this morning. Herald Angels went to the following Festival artists:

Dialogos - Tondal's Vision
Kathryn Howden - The Last Witch

These add to the tally of our Festival artists who have won 2009 Herald Angels. Last week awards went to:

Christopher Bell - Festival Chorus Conductor
Ofelia Popii - Faust
Frank Woodley - Optimism

Wrap up of Week 2

The music and dance extravaganza that was Week 2 got off to a great start with dance productions The Return of Ulysses performed by the Royal Ballet of Flanders and the expressive and visually stunning Gelabert Azzopardi Companyia de Dansa. The thought-provoking opera Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria from Handspring Puppet Company opened on Sunday to rave reviews and several 5-star ratings.
